How do you know when your design is working?

October 5, 2018/admin

We find ourselves being asked this question all the time. When are your design ideas and products working as a whole and when are they not? Well there is no easy answer for this, and sometimes it is not working and you need someone to come out and say it- and finding someone that will say ‘no’ to you can be hard!

Working with different companies and people who all have differing opinions can be confusing. What you really need are solutions – not just yes and nos. What we find when working with our clients, is that when someone asks if their design is working – either something is bothering them or they need reassurance. This is where we can provide direction and help bring the design together!

Over the years we have come up with some tips for you to work out if your design is working for you-we hope these help on your journey…

TIP 1
Don’t overcrowd yourself with peoples’ opinions. Keep to a couple of people who understand your project and yourself.

TIP 2
Find an outsider that you work well with-but who is not emotionally connected to you and the project and get their input.

TIP 3
Utilising natural elements in some form will enhance a space-it will bring warmth to any design and can be the basis of the design or the back drop.

TIP 4
Go with your gut! If you find yourself going around in circles, than the right choice is really there in front of you!

TIP 5
Don’t be afraid to get quotes-having tangible pricing allows you to work out your budget (and how much can be left for the “fun” purchases!)

TIP 6
If you can’t visualise it-find someone who can create it for you.

A rendered image can help you visualise a space.

TIP 7
Know and understand the products you are selecting. Are there care and maintenance issues you should know about?

TIP 8
Is your design in line with the outcome? Are you selling, planning on renting after renovating or is this the short term plan- does the intent align with what you need? Sometimes taking yourself out of the equation helps put a design into perspective.

TIP 9
Be happy and confident with your choices- you are really the only person you have to please.

TIP 10
Nothing really is forever. It may seem like it at times-but things do change. Embrace it and design around it!

We hope these tips help you in the planning process!
